Just in time before Christmas, the Lithuanian Department of Statistics has sent us some festive numbers. 268 183 guests visited Kaunas in the first nine months of 2019, which is 9% more than in the same period in 2018.
For hotel nights, the rise is 13% (that’s a total of 483 653 nights). On average, the hotel occupancy percentage in Kaunas was 72.6% in January-September. May was the busiest month, with 81.3% rooms occupied.
69.9% of Kaunas hotel guests came from other countries – in total, 10% more foreign guests stayed in Kaunas for at least one night. Here’s where most of the travellers were from:
1. Germany (23355 guests (+14%); 47 507 hotel nights (+3%)
2. Poland (18191 guest (+28%); 28720 hotel nights (+42%)
3. Russia (15685 guests (+9%); 24384 hotel nights (+18%)
4. Finland (13584 guests (+75%); 25577 hotel nights (+124%)
5. Latvia (12009 guests (+6%); 17375 hotel nights (+14%)
6. Ukraine (11723 guests (+22%); 28524 hotel nights (+70%)
7. Estonia (11163 guests (+8%); 15446 hotel nights (+7%)
8. The UK (9033 guests (-1%); 18963 hotel nights (-1%)
9. Belarus (6488 guests (-2%); 10080 hotel nights (+7%)
10. Italy (6137 guests (+33%); 11669 hotel nights (+17%)
At least 3334 Israeli travellers visited Kaunas in the first nine months of 2019 and stayed for two nights on average; another significant country in the statistics is China – at least 3072 guests.
92 323 guests visited the Kaunas IN tourism information centres in the first three quarters 2019; 64.8% of them were foreign guests seeking information about our city. Our tourism professionals met a significant number of guests from Germany, as well as Russia, Poland, France and Ukraine.
