Finally – the first zero-waste bulk store has opened in Kaunas this month. Located in Žaliakalnis neighbourhood, it’s called Full Jar and can satisfy many of your everyday needs.

The concept of Full Jar follows the principles of circular economy by encouraging to keep resources in use for as long as possible. So, when going to the store, you should bring your own bags, jars or other sorts of containers for nuts, flour, vegetables, dairy products, hygiene items etc. and… a shopping list. It’s encouraged to prepare one at home, so you don’t buy too much – and know how many bags and jars you need.

Don’t worry if you don’t have any of the latter. Kind-hearted shoppers can bring all the extra jars they have at home and leave in the store for others to use. You can also get bags from recycled textile. Fact is, some items in the shop do come in a package, but those are as ecologic and recyclable as possible. Just as they say, “We may never reach zero in “zero-waste”, but that’s no reason to take zero action.”

The interior of the Full Jar also follows the same earth-loving principles. The shelves were created from used wooden boxes, and instead of regular paper or plastic price tags, they use small blackboards and chalk. Cute!

We’re delighted to see more and more sustainable initiatives and green actions in Kaunas. Recently, we blogged about two kaunastic girls running a nut butter business and published an interview with the founder of Fridays for Future Kaunas. Hopefully, the list of inspiring things to write about will keep growing.
