The church of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus in Šančiai is a characteristic example of modern sacred architecture, having a Romanesque spirit. Modernist churches were not a very common phenomenon in the First Republic which is why the church in Šančiai is an interesting and valuable object for Lithuanian sacred heritage. The church’s constructions are of reinforced concrete: the supporting arches and the caisson shell covering the nave. The physical education building and cinema theatre Romuva have similar mesh reinforced concrete vaults. The church is famous for Liudas Truikys’ fresco Angels, painted in a Byzantine manner on the presbytery arch. Year: 1938. Style: Moderate modernism. Architect Algirdas Šalkauskis, Adolfas Netyksa, Pranas Markūnas.
