Video: A Museum as an Exhibit

The National M. K. Čiurlionis Museum of Art is free from exhibitions until Jan 8th. Come visit!

The National M. K. Čiurlionis Museum of Art has just opened its doors after a decade-long restoration process and invites architecture lovers to experience the glory of modernism in its true shape, while the exhibitions have not yet been installed.

The project, called “18 days of Authenticity”, involves detailed excursions around the museum building, focusing on details, materials, shapes and forms, all designed by Vladimiras Dubeneckis, Karolis Reisonas and Kazys Kriščiukaitis in the 1930s. In fact, the building celebrates its 80th birthday and the museum, dedicated to Lithuanias’ greatest and best-known painter and composer, is actually 15 years older than its home.

Here’s a short yet mouthwatering video focusing on the extraordinary details of interwar modern architecture and then giving a sneak peek to the cellar of the museum. Can you guess what’s kept in there?

You can visit the exhibition-free museum until Jan 8th, 2017. Of course, you can come any time later, too!
