Looking for Music Festivals Near Kaunas? Check Granatos

The Granatos festival will be held 20 km outside of Kaunas, in the Lithuanian Open Air Museum.

Visiting a music festival or two is a must for many travellers. Lithuania offers quite a lot of events tailored for various tastes, including festivals of rock, electronic music, country, classical music etc.

We’ve got one event to recommend for those interested in a wide array of pop and alternative music near Kaunas – it’s Granatos, a mid-size festival happening 20 km outside of Kaunas, in the Lithuanian Open Air Museum.

The Lithuanian Open Air Museum in Rumšiškės itself is one of the top places to visit in Lithuania, especially if you’re interested in the heritage and traditions of our country. One of the largest ethnographic open-air museums in Europe (195 ha!) is a tiny version of the different regions of Lithuania as they looked some 100-200 years ago. You can visit the historic buildings brought from the areas as well as engage in educational activities. The museum holds more than a dozen traditional events each year, including Mardi Gras, Midsummer, Assumption of the Virgin Mary Day etc. Granatos, a contemporary music event, is an interesting inclusion in the event calendar of Rumšiškės, it’s also probably the most popular one. This is what the festival was all about last year!

This year, the festival will be held on August 3-5th. The 3-day long party filled with music and other activities will be headlined by the likes of Rita Ora, Rudimental (DJ set), George Ezra, Duke Dumont and Betsy. Granatos is also a great spot to discover the best of what Lithuanian music has to offer – don’t miss Andrius Mamontovas, Jazzu, Ba., Parranda Polar, Junior a and Beatrich. A lot of hip-hop acts are on the lineup, too.

Secure your weekend in Granatos by getting a ticket online. Don’t forget to buy a separate camping ticket, too, if you intend to stay at the festival for the whole weekend. As it’s just 20 km from the centre of Kaunas, it’s also possible to commute.
