Kaunastic Leisure. Staying Fit in Kaunas

Who said you have to ditch your daily routine when travelling? No matter if you’re into yoga or basketball, a runner, or a swimmer, you can practice all of the above, and more, while staying in Kaunas.

Who said you have to ditch your daily routine when travelling? No matter if you’re into yoga or basketball, a runner, or a swimmer, you can practice all of the above, and more, while staying in Kaunas. We’re in fact a very motivated city when in comes to sports – check out the “City of Champions” map in the “It’s Kaunastic” series for some historical motivation, facts and figures…

Žalgirio arena

Known to be the largest multifunctional arena in the Baltic States, Žalgirio arena is the home of our most awarded team, BC Žalgiris Kaunas, which competes in the prestigious EuroLeague tournament. Sold-out games are what we’re proud of, but did you know that you can slam dunk in the main court of the arena as well? Click here for more information and booking the space…

Water sports

Wakeboarding is a THING in Lithuania; we have 30+ parks all over the country, and 5 of them are a stone’s throw from central Kaunas, including one of the longest tracks in Europe in Lampėdis lake, called Wake Up Kaunas. Another option is to wakeboard or wake surf in Kaunas Sea, provided by Party Cruiser. More on this here.

Rio sports arena

Within walking distance from the city centre, the RIO universal sports arena is made of in two different areas: sand and halls. It is open all year long, so beach volleyball, tennis or badminton can be enjoyed anytime, by people of all ages and skills.

Swimming pools

What about a decent swim in the Girstutis Palace which was built in 1975, and today is named as one of the largest and most modern sports complexes in Lithuania; or in a brand new pool and sauna complex named “Aušra” located in the historical printing house building? We have no doubt that the 50 and 25 meter-long swimming pools, various types of saunas and whirlpools will serve well for swimmers of all ages and needs.

Yoga

The body is our home where our soul lives, so harmony between body and soul is especially important during travel! If you miss your vinyasa yoga teacher when travelling, check out the Kaunas-based English-language sessions held every Monday and Wednesday.

Tennis

If you want an intense full-body training, we definitely recommend you to check out the numerous tennis complexes that ensure the pleasure of sports and a great experience. No matter where you stay, you can try out your strength at regular trainings in any corner of Kaunas – tennis courts, both indoor and outdoor, abound everywhere. Many not only offer workouts for both kids and adults but also provide gear. Click here for our recommendations.

Running

Running, at any time of the day, causes the release of endorphins and thus improves the quality of mental and emotional life – especially when a scenic running track is chosen – and have more than enough of these in Kaunas. One of our favourite things is running down the stream of Nemunas; Panemunės pinewood track is for nature lovers.

Horse riding

Same as with wakeboarding, there are at least five spots you can try horse riding in or around Kaunas. The farmsteads offer both professional training and therapy sessions, as well as romantic photoshoots. Here’s the list we trust.
