Discover the Kaunastic Personalities of Liudas Truikys and Marijona Rakauskaitė

The charming memorial apartment full of artwork and souvenirs from the East, recalls not only the legacy of the two personalities but also the habits of entertainment of the interwar cultural and artistic elite.

While not able to invite visitors during the lockdown, the L. Truikys and M. Rakauskaitė house-museum (part of the National M. K. Čiurlionis  Museum of Art network) invites to discover and get to know the personalities and works of its former residents Liudas Truikys and Marijona Rakauskaitė.

Truikys (1904–1987), a painter and set designer (he created scenography for 27 plays!), left a bright mark on the world of Lithuanian theatre. His visionary work, based on the principle of synthesis, raised a whirlwind of thoughts and tore down established traditions in the creative field.

“We recognised each other and had no choice but to be together,” Truikys once said about Rakauskaitė (1892–1975), the US-born State Theatre’s dramatic soprano. The pair met in 1934 and grew old together in the apartment in Žaliakalnis.
